I have spoken with administration, since GCHS is focused on curricular and making sure we are teaching "bell to bell" I wanted to communicate with administration the focus behind this project. Administration is supportive and seem anxious to view the results of this inquiry as well as speak to the students to see if they gained some knowledge. We hope that test taking strategies will be benefical to students.
I decided to have my students to create posters during the inquiry, it is my belief that students will take ownership in the inquiry and buy into the strategies.
Friday, I plan on having students sign off on permission slips as well as making a call home to the students parents. As many of you already know, I teacher juniors and seniors, so several of the students are 18 years old and sign there own permission slips. However, as a courtesy to the parents I will telephone each of them throughout the day. With small class such as mine telephoning parents is a very simple task. (My largest class is Geometry with 8 students, and 6 of those students are in my Math Development class.)
I am anxious to get started and finished. And hope to get started on Monday or Tuesday, because this is the week before SPRING BREAK...
Grant Co. is off for a week, can you believe it we actually got to our entire week.... So I want to relax, finish up and hopefully enjoy a few nice sunny days.

I think it is great that you got your administration on board here- I am sure they will be very supportive. And what a pain about the permission slips- but it gives you an excuse to contact parents- which is good. I think your early steps are right on. I forgot about the Spring break- I might have to think again about our time line. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dr. Clarke- I also think that it is great that you have involved your administration and that they are supporting you! I am anxious to hear about the student posters, I think that with the age group that you are working with, you are going to get some great results! I am also hoping to get my lessons done next week- Since we are on Spring Break from Friday April 2-9th!!! Good luck and I can't wait to hear more!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I am impressed with you having your taping finished. It is so nice to have a good, working relationship with your administration. This is a great inquiry to be implementing giving that testing is coming up quickly. And we all know the importance that is placed upon that. It sounds like the students are actively engaged with making the posters, etc. Good luck putting on the final touches during spring break. Enjoy your week! I still have another week before spring break.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of creating a poster. It's a creative way to encourage everyone to pass along the information. Plus hopefully everyone will cover all the ideas for the test taking strategies. My school has the technology permission slip already passed out at the beginning of the year. It is a good idea to check with the administration for further permission. Great job!
